Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler is facing multiple charges following a DUI arrest in Franklin, Tennessee. The incident, which took place on October 17, involved a minor traffic collision between Cutler’s vehicle and another car. He now faces charges for driving under the influence (DUI), possessing a handgun while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care, and violating implied consent laws.
Allegations of Attempted Bribery and Fleeing the Scene
According to a police affidavit, the driver of the vehicle that Cutler allegedly rear-ended claimed that the 41-year-old attempted to leave the scene. The driver further alleged that Cutler offered him $2,000 to avoid involving law enforcement.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers noted that Cutler, a former Chicago Bears quarterback, displayed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. The police report stated that Cutler emitted a strong odor of alcohol, though he initially denied drinking before admitting he had “a little bit.”
Refusal of Sobriety Test and Firearms Discovered
Cutler refused to undergo a field sobriety test, but police later obtained a blood sample at Williamson Medical Center. During a search of his vehicle, officers discovered a rifle in the backseat and a loaded handgun in the center console.
Following the arrest, Cutler was released on a $5,000 bond, and a court hearing is scheduled for January 16, 2025. E! News has reached out to Cutler’s representatives but has not received a response.
Kristin Cavallari Reflects on Custody Changes and Post-Divorce Life
Cutler’s arrest comes amid personal changes for his ex-wife, Kristin Cavallari. The couple, who share three children—Camden (12), Jaxon (10), and Saylor (8)—finalized their divorce in 2022. Recently, Cavallari opened up about changes in their custody arrangement following her split from boyfriend Mark Estes.
Speaking on her Let’s Be Honest podcast, Cavallari shared, “When I was dating last fall, I was still doing split custody with my ex, and I had every other week off from my kids. That’s changed. I’m really happy and content with my life right now, focusing on my kids and work.”
Cavallari Discusses the Toll of Marriage Stress
Cavallari has also been candid about the toll her marriage to Cutler took on her health. Reflecting on that period during a previous episode of her podcast, she recalled, “I look back at photos from that time, and I was rail thin. I looked like skin and bones. That was just stress from being in an unhappy marriage.” Today, she says she feels healthier and happier, focusing on personal well-being and her children.
With the court date set for early 2025, Cutler’s legal challenges are just beginning as he faces serious charges related to the DUI incident.
