Demi Moore recently shared an update on Bruce Willis’ health amid his battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). During an appearance at the 2024 Hamptons International Film Festival on Sunday, October 13, Moore revealed that the 69-year-old actor is “stable” despite his diagnosis. The update came during a live discussion where Moore, honored with the Career Achievement in Acting Award, reflected on Willis’ condition and her perspective on navigating his illness.
Coping with Bruce Willis’ FTD Diagnosis
Moore, 61, opened up about her approach to dealing with Willis’ FTD diagnosis, which was made public by his wife, Emma Heming Willis, in 2022 following his aphasia diagnosis. “The disease is what it is,” Moore said, emphasizing the importance of acceptance. She added, “For where he’s at, he is stable. You have to meet them where they are.”
She encouraged others to focus on the present rather than holding on to what was, describing how meeting loved ones where they are in their journey with illness can bring “great beauty and sweetness.”
Cherishing Time with Family
Moore recently visited Willis alongside her granddaughter, Louetta, who is the daughter of their eldest, Rumer Willis. Speaking about the importance of spending time with Bruce, she said, “Being able to share with whatever we have, for however long we have it,” is essential. Moore and Willis share three daughters: Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 30. In a previous interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Moore expressed gratitude that Willis is “in a stable place, given the circumstances.”
Reflecting on a Lifetime of Work
During the festival, Moore also reflected on her acting career, discussing iconic films such as Ghost (1990), Indecent Proposal (1993), and G.I. Jane (1997). Watching a reel of her work backstage, she described it as “watching a lot of life,” adding, “It feels like lifetimes because the gift is that we get to keep changing and growing.” Moore expressed appreciation for the opportunities that allowed her to evolve as an actor, stating, “Thank God I kept getting opportunities to get better.”
Moore’s Latest Role in The Substance
Moore’s latest film, The Substance, directed by Coralie Fargeat, explores themes of body image and societal expectations surrounding aging. In the film, Moore plays Elisabeth Sparkle, a character who takes a black-market drug in an attempt to create a younger version of herself. The film delves into the pressures women face regarding appearance and self-worth.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Moore reflected on the film’s themes and her relationship with her own body over the years. She discussed how self-judgment can become paralyzing, saying, “We’re so hyper-focused on all that we’re not. If we start to think our value is only with how we look, then ultimately we’re going to be crushed.”
The Substance in Theaters
The Substance, currently in theaters, brings Moore back to the screen in a thought-provoking role that addresses deeper societal issues. The film serves as another opportunity for Moore to reflect on both her personal and professional growth while continuing to captivate audiences.
